Recommended Tools for Coloring Pages

A simple starter kit for coloring at any skill level.

You do not need an expensive set to enjoy coloring. Here are the basics we recommend, from beginner-friendly to more advanced.

Starter kit

  • A basic set of colored pencils or crayons, such as a Crayola set
  • Standard printer paper for practicing and everyday pages
  • A pencil sharpener and a soft eraser

Leveling up

  • A dual-tip alcohol marker set like Ohuhu for blending and shading, see our Ohuhu Marker List
  • Marker-safe paper or light cardstock to prevent bleed-through
  • A blank swatch chart to test and organize new colors

For detailed, professional-style work

  • Refillable alcohol markers like Copic or OLO, see our Copic Marker List or OLO Marker List
  • A dedicated marker paper pad for smoother blending
  • Fine-tip pens for adding detail lines after coloring
